billboards

December 8, 2008

I was recently driving home one day and i noticed in the intersection of Venice and La Cienega there are probably around five billboards that surround the intersection all appealing to one movie at a time. So if a new movie is coming out all five of the billboards would have different advertisements for that certain movie. I am wondering why that intersection? Maybe because its a well known place on the map that alot of commuters travel apon each day. Its for sure catching peoples attention with the bright colors and huge letters. It actually is really annoying at the same time just because if your stopped at the light you look around you and see the same annoying billboard in all directions, I mean each of them have a different picture on it but its still appealing to the same movie.

At the same intersection there is also a digital billboard that still continues to appeal to the same movie the others are advertising but only this billboard is changing ever 10 or 15 seconds to a new picture. Its quite crazy how advertising gets carried away in this particular intersection in the LA area.

News

December 8, 2008

As I was writing my two page news analyzation I realized how depressing the news actually is. The news program I  happened to watch was in the morning and nearly everything was something negative. Whether it was around the local community or through out the U.S  the news focused on nothing positive, the flaws of the economy were presented as a main topic and from there it branched out talking about different crimes around the L.A area. I wondered who is it that decides the “important” information presented.

To some this isn’t important at all. Why does everyone need to know the small negative details in the community. It will worry people more and with all the struggles in the U.S their is no need to inform people about events that don’t effect everyone. After watching the news i feel as if it put a dwell on my day hearing all the negative hate happening in Los Angeles. In the end its not what people want to hear but it is what is happening in the community around us.

Apple fevaa

December 8, 2008

Last week I went out of town and while i was at the airport. I stopped and took a look around, and what i saw was at least 100 to 200 different people with their laptops. Not just any laptop. It was a Macbook. Then I boarded the airplane and everyone took out there Ipod. Not an MP3 player, but there ipod. From the shuffle to the touch have the Mac products taken over. Is it the catchy colors that attract peoples attention, or the creative commercials that give consumers the urge to go buy  a mac product.

I also have noticed that the songs playing on the Apple commercials always tend to get popular after being on the commercial. I find the commercials to be trendy by using creative techniques, such as color and sound to actually get the attention of the one who is watching. I went to you tube to post a video of one of there many commercials. This commercial is actually one focusing on the “green” of the computer. They used facts about how its energy efficent to attract the consumers. I actually believe this would attract many, giving the fact that our economy is at an all time low & anything that is energy saving is always better.

skinny diet.

December 8, 2008

Being skinny is still such a concern for many young teenage girls. Sadly enough the media has a lot of influence on that certain skinny look. When famous celebs are looked at so in detail through the media, about their weight and what not, girls seem to look up to that and think that’s what they need to look like. The Victoria secret fashion show was on last week,  I over heard my friend talking about it saying she felt ” So fat after watching it” .. but why? She had also said she didn’t want to eat for a few days because she thought she was getting fat. Fat meaning like hmm 130 pounds. I even seem to worry about my weight on a daily bases and im not over weight I just always want to be skinnier.

I need to stop focusing my attention on my weight, when there are plenty of other things going on in my life and the world around me to worry about such a silly thing. I personally think seeing the typical ” skinny girl” in magazines influences me and others around me a lot. Always seeing photo shopped pictures of girls wondering why I don’t look like that. I wonder why they don’t put an over weight person on the cover of Cosmo? Or any popular magazine for that matter. I think there needs to be attention in the media focused on something more then just the appearance of one.

Cell phone revolution

December 8, 2008

Technology keeps coming up with crazy ideas and phones. The latest phone the blackberry storm has got people going nuts over the “first touch screen blackberry.” Today it seems you can’t go anywhere with out over hearing peoples annoying conversations on there cell phone. I found it interesting that in one of the commericals for the storm, It refers to the popular website, Facebook. Stating something along the lines of ” you can even access facebook”  is this a catchy way to attract peoples attention? If so I’m sure it works. Sadly enough people would buy it for that reason alone, blackberry even has their own facebook and myspace application, to connect you to the over populated website in a convenient way on your cell phone.

Why is it that we can’t seem to go anywhere with out our cell phones? If me or any of my friends don’t have our phone’s, and were going one night with out it, we feel like were missing something. I’ll even notice at times if were hanging out, were all texting at the same time. Its rather ridiculous, but it does happen. What happened to the old fashion phone, that you use at home only to talk to someone. It also seems today the old classic home phone is slowly disappearing, because people tend to get a hold of others through cellular devices.
