I was recently driving home one day and i noticed in the intersection of Venice and La Cienega there are probably around five billboards that surround the intersection all appealing to one movie at a time. So if a new movie is coming out all five of the billboards would have different advertisements for that certain movie. I am wondering why that intersection? Maybe because its a well known place on the map that alot of commuters travel apon each day. Its for sure catching peoples attention with the bright colors and huge letters. It actually is really annoying at the same time just because if your stopped at the light you look around you and see the same annoying billboard in all directions, I mean each of them have a different picture on it but its still appealing to the same movie.
At the same intersection there is also a digital billboard that still continues to appeal to the same movie the others are advertising but only this billboard is changing ever 10 or 15 seconds to a new picture. Its quite crazy how advertising gets carried away in this particular intersection in the LA area.
As I was writing my two page news analyzation I realized how depressing the news actually is. The news program I happened to watch was in the morning and nearly everything was something negative. Whether it was around the local community or through out the U.S the news focused on nothing positive, the flaws of the economy were presented as a main topic and from there it branched out talking about different crimes around the L.A area. I wondered who is it that decides the “important” information presented.
To some this isn’t important at all. Why does everyone need to know the small negative details in the community. It will worry people more and with all the struggles in the U.S their is no need to inform people about events that don’t effect everyone. After watching the news i feel as if it put a dwell on my day hearing all the negative hate happening in Los Angeles. In the end its not what people want to hear but it is what is happening in the community around us.
Last week I went out of town and while i was at the airport. I stopped and took a look around, and what i saw was at least 100 to 200 different people with their laptops. Not just any laptop. It was a Macbook. Then I boarded the airplane and everyone took out there Ipod. Not an MP3 player, but there ipod. From the shuffle to the touch have the Mac products taken over. Is it the catchy colors that attract peoples attention, or the creative commercials that give consumers the urge to go buy a mac product.
I also have noticed that the songs playing on the Apple commercials always tend to get popular after being on the commercial. I find the commercials to be trendy by using creative techniques, such as color and sound to actually get the attention of the one who is watching. I went to you tube to post a video of one of there many commercials. This commercial is actually one focusing on the “green” of the computer. They used facts about how its energy efficent to attract the consumers. I actually believe this would attract many, giving the fact that our economy is at an all time low & anything that is energy saving is always better.
Being skinny is still such a concern for many young teenage girls. Sadly enough the media has a lot of influence on that certain skinny look. When famous celebs are looked at so in detail through the media, about their weight and what not, girls seem to look up to that and think that’s what they need to look like. The Victoria secret fashion show was on last week, I over heard my friend talking about it saying she felt ” So fat after watching it” .. but why? She had also said she didn’t want to eat for a few days because she thought she was getting fat. Fat meaning like hmm 130 pounds. I even seem to worry about my weight on a daily bases and im not over weight I just always want to be skinnier.
I need to stop focusing my attention on my weight, when there are plenty of other things going on in my life and the world around me to worry about such a silly thing. I personally think seeing the typical ” skinny girl” in magazines influences me and others around me a lot. Always seeing photo shopped pictures of girls wondering why I don’t look like that. I wonder why they don’t put an over weight person on the cover of Cosmo? Or any popular magazine for that matter. I think there needs to be attention in the media focused on something more then just the appearance of one.
Technology keeps coming up with crazy ideas and phones. The latest phone the blackberry storm has got people going nuts over the “first touch screen blackberry.” Today it seems you can’t go anywhere with out over hearing peoples annoying conversations on there cell phone. I found it interesting that in one of the commericals for the storm, It refers to the popular website, Facebook. Stating something along the lines of ” you can even access facebook” is this a catchy way to attract peoples attention? If so I’m sure it works. Sadly enough people would buy it for that reason alone, blackberry even has their own facebook and myspace application, to connect you to the over populated website in a convenient way on your cell phone.
Why is it that we can’t seem to go anywhere with out our cell phones? If me or any of my friends don’t have our phone’s, and were going one night with out it, we feel like were missing something. I’ll even notice at times if were hanging out, were all texting at the same time. Its rather ridiculous, but it does happen. What happened to the old fashion phone, that you use at home only to talk to someone. It also seems today the old classic home phone is slowly disappearing, because people tend to get a hold of others through cellular devices.
Oh what a week around my city. Apparently someone in High School (not for sure) has made a “burn blog” on the popular blog website blogspot.com. However this isn’t public media by all means but its still attracting all the young teens that live in Culver City. This blog is extremely cruel if you’re looking at it from one point of view, but on the other hand its simply just jokes, if not taken personal. There are pictures of different cliques that went to my High School with captions such as ” the real ugly friend, every guys dream!” hurtful words if your the one being targeted at, although a picture of me and my group of friends were on there as ” Army of Skanks” simply relating to Mean Girls, were not ones to take that personal. Its rather immuture but at the same time attracting a lot of views and attention and honestly a bit entertaining.
Who ever decided to take the time to photo shop these pictures and write paragraphs about several different individuals obviously has nothing better to do. Why do people continue to judge a book by its cover? He or she got what they wanted and that was to get a reaction from the teens of CC. Why do people care so much? I don’t know but this secretive blogger seems as if he or she wants to continue stirring up the gossip.
So I have recently come across the website Peta.org ( People for the ethical treatment of Animals) This website is an extremely persuasive website to get people to stop eating meat and prevent animal testing. There are horrible videos on here of what happens behind the scene’s of meat house’s and animal testing facilities.
Watch one video and I guarantee this will open up your eyes. I’m honestly thinking of never eating any type of meat again. To watch the people who actually work in the meat factories enjoy murdering these animals. Some of the men working in the factories even have sex with the animal. Its extremely disturbing in a variety of different ways. Just watch for your self and let Peta open up your eyes.
As we had our short discussion in class the other day about the award show that no one seemed to watch according to ratings, I find my self never watching any type of television for that matter, which is weird because that’s where most of my time was spent.. in front of the TV watching some stupid entertaining reality show after school or at night before bed.
Last week my roommate and I finally got cable after a month of living with out any source of television and I was so stoked on the fact that I get to watch TV again. I still find myself not watching any TV because my time is either pre occupied by facebook or simply attending school and studying, when I do watch TV I now tend to watch the news because I try to keep up with what is going on in the community I live in or around the world for that matter. I find it interesting how more people my age are spending more and more time on the Internet (facebook myspace blogs etc ) and other things rather then watching TV.
Well giving the fact that the VMA’S were two weeks ago I continue to see magazines through out different stores with Britney Spears on the cover, and her ” wonderful comeback” at the vma’s. I just am a little confused why this is such huge news for magazines and news programs to be talking about the former pop star and her appearance at the award show. I mean don’t get me wrong that’s awesome, she looked great at the Music awards but why should this be on the cover of different Magazines, I just feel as if there are a little more important issues going around in this world besides Britney looking a lot better then last year.
The pop star has been through a lot with the media but I think its about time that we stop pin pointing her in negative and positive ways and let her be. Maybe the media should find a new target because News on Britney is getting a little old and outdated. The media always finds something to attack with her, maybe because she has so many problems, but honestly Im sick of seeing Britney spears everywhere.
I was at my aunts house last weekend and I happened to come across an old issue of people magazine dated back to July, My attention was caught when I saw the Obama family on the cover, Not just Mr. Obama him self but his daughters & his wife as well. I have to say they are an extremely adorable family. I was thinking about the questions we have been going over in class as I was reading the article, such as who is buying or subscribing to this magazine to actually read about his life, upper, middle class? Why the democrat on the cover of people magazine and not the republican? I don’t know I just thought it was interesting how him and his family made the cover of people magazine, We have yet to hear anything on McCain’s family, or actually I don’t know I’m not really following the whole presidential campaign but I’m slowly trying to understand and get into it.
